University of Lynchburg – Drysdale Student Center

34,630 SF

To keep up with potential student demands of providing new buildings with lots of amenities, the University of Lynchburg elected to do just that. The Drysdale Student Center consisted of constructing a 3-story addition to the existing Burton Hall, the College’s main on-campus dining facility. In order to do so, much of Burton was renovated whilst still being open to the student body. A sprinkler system was added to the entire building and the University’s Bookstore was moved into the new facility.

To provide all of the spaces and programs that the Owner had on their wish list, it was determined to excavate down an entire story and make the addition 3-stories; a full story lower than the existing Burton Hall. Drysdale is constructed using a steel frame with non-load-bearing walls. Faculty offices, student program offices, a grab’n-go style cafe, fitness room, game room, meeting spaces, and lounges are all housed in the new 34,632 SF addition.
